Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Shelf may collect, how it is used, and how visibility works across shelves and communities.

Last updated April 29, 2026

1. Information you provide

Shelf may collect account information such as your handle, display name, email address, password credentials, profile photo, bio, settings, and any content you choose to save or share.

Content you provide may include links, titles, notes, tags, communities, follows, recipe edits, invite activity, and visibility choices.

2. Information collected automatically

Shelf may collect basic technical information needed to run and secure the service, such as log data, device or browser information, IP address, pages or routes requested, timestamps, errors, and approximate usage patterns.

Shelf uses authentication sessions and similar technologies to keep you signed in, protect your account, and remember product settings.

3. How Shelf uses information

Shelf uses information to operate the product, show your shelf and communities, process saved links, improve search and recommendations, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and communicate with users when needed.

Shelf may use saved links and related source material to generate summaries, tags, thumbnails, recipe ingredients, and other helpful metadata.

4. Visibility and sharing

Public profile and item information may be visible to other users or visitors. Community content may be visible to members of that community. Private content is intended to be limited based on the product controls available at the time.

Do not save or share information on Shelf that you would not want shown to the people permitted by your visibility settings.

5. Service providers

Shelf may rely on service providers for hosting, databases, authentication, storage, link previews, analytics, error monitoring, AI enrichment, email, and other operational needs.

These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to Shelf, subject to their own terms and privacy commitments.

6. AI processing

When AI enrichment is enabled, Shelf may send saved link metadata and extracted source text to an AI provider to generate summaries, tags, and recipe details.

AI output can be incomplete or incorrect. Shelf may store generated summaries, tags, ingredients, instructions, and related error information with the saved item.

7. Retention and deletion

Shelf keeps account and content information for as long as needed to operate the product, comply with obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, or preserve legitimate records.

You can initiate account deletion from Settings in the app or on the web. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, saved links, rooms you created, follows, and active sessions.

8. Security

Shelf uses reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No online service can guarantee perfect security.

You can help protect your account by using a strong password and keeping access to your devices and email secure.

9. Children

Shelf is not intended for children under 13. Do not use Shelf or submit personal information if you are under 13.

10. Changes and contact

Shelf may update this Privacy Policy as the product, providers, or legal requirements change. Questions can be sent through the support or contact channel provided by the Shelf operator.
